Before this project any motion video projects I needed to work on was done through Apple’s Motion application. I have an old version of Motion and rather then upgrading I made the switch to AE and it was a pleasure to use and create the following project celebrating 2009 in Cooperative Ministries. The project is done, definitely some things I have learned this time that I will change for the next project but I think it is a good start. Let me know what you think of the video!

It’s time to announce my technology choice of the year. This year the choice is clear, it’s Canon’s 7D camera. In September Canon announced the release of a 18.0 Megapixel dual digic 4 image processing 12,800 ISO HD recording piece of awesomeness. Not only does this camera take stunning images it also records full 1080p HD video recording at 24p, 25p, and 30p at a price that is really hard to match.

I have shot quite a few Canon cameras but one of my favorite things about this camera is that everything is completely new. The all new 19-point autofocus system, the new LCD screen with overlay goodness. Although this is not Canon’s first go at HD video in its DSLR family the video in the 7D is awesome. Video is defiantly a full out feature of the 7D unlike some of the comparison Nikon models who just seem to “add it in”. The 7D provides for fully manual operation of the video system.

I will note that I am just getting started with the 7D. I am totally excited about taking it on my upcoming missions trip to Nicaragua in the new year. This is truly an amazing piece of technology and I am looking forward to all of the moments that I will capture. I will note that one thing I have noticed using Canons new 18-135 IS lens is that noise reduction can get pretty aggressive at higher ISO speeds which can obscure some detail in photos. The Canon 7D is also not full frame which might put some people off but for me this is a solid camera that produces the video and image quality that I need!

Pastor Lanny Kilgore launched a church in southern York County called New Covenant Community Church 20 years ago. On Sunday August 23, 2009 his church celebrated 20 years in ministry, his 60th birthday, and recognized Lanny with a public ordination service. I was asked to help make a video that would play during the service. Check it out!

I recently worked on a video project with my position at the Brethren in Christ Church to create a second “Hope For Zimbabwe” video. This is the “children’s version”. Our hope is that the video will be used at summer VBS programs and children’s clubs programs in the fall to help connect North American kids with the kids from Zimbabwe who are in need. If you don’t know already the country of Zimbabwe is in crisis. Inflation is out of control. Unemployment is at 90 percent. Drought and political turmoil have made farming almost impossible. Most Zimbabweans eat just one meager meal a day, and death from starvation is commonplace. The BIC have missionaries on the ground in Zimbabwe organizing food and supplies to be distributed in villages in great need of support. For just $75 you can support the cause and give a village in need the necessary supplies for one month of living! Check out the video below!
